A number of parents have contacted Southend News Network to complain about a clown scaring children on the BBC channel CBeebies. According to reports, the terrifying individual is able to instantly morph into a number of other characters on-screen, leaving children feeling both confused and upset at the same time.

Outraged parent Dave Macton said: ‘I was making my kids some breakfast this morning while they watched a little bit of TV, when all of a sudden I heard screaming from the living room.’

‘I walked in there and they actually had a full-screen shot of a clown waving his arms around to try and communicate in another language.’

‘Tensions about random clowns are high at the moment, and in my view it was an incredibly silly thing for the BBC to do. An hour later and they are both still crying – they couldn’t even bear to watch and see what he pulled out of his bag, but it wouldn’t have surprised me to see a knife.’

Another disgusted parent told our Chief Reporter that her kids ran and hid in the cupboard under the stairs when the TV clown started talking directly to them during the show.

Jessica Tomlée said: ‘My two-year-girl was already in tears, and then all of a sudden the clown turns directly to the camera and says ‘You sign, banana.’

‘That must be some sort of cursed Latin chant or Aramaic or something but it scared the living sh*t out of everyone in the room.’

‘When it looked like the show was about to end we all breathed a huge sigh of relief, but then the clown turned the end credits into a song and dance as well when all of his other clown characters started appearing on the screen. This is yet another example of irresponsible broadcasting by the BBC.’

‘Speaking as both a parent and a Licence Fee-payer, I am outraged and appalled.’
